Born in Lassa, Borno state to late Mr. Satumari and Mrs. Ngaram Kudla, Kudla Milnda Satumari’s quality of being a guiding light shone through early in life earning him the nickname ‘Haske’ which means Light. A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University where he obtained a degree in Business Administration and Finance, Satumari has always demonstrated passion for service to humanity in all his endeavors and everywhere he went, beginning from his community.
While in the university, he was actively involved in the mobilization of students in tertiary institutions across the North East, raising awareness on key political and social issues. He was part of the leadership team for the National Union of Borno State Students, Ahmadu Bello University Chapter.
After graduating, Satumari began his career in the Aviation Sector. His quality for being hardworking led to the opportunity to work in different aspects of aviation including airline operations, aviation safety and marketing. Having acquired a lot of skill and experience over the years, Satumari began training those around him, grooming and mentoring them as part of selfless service. He became the Secretary General for the National Cabin Crew Association, and the Workers’ Representative of Air Transport. Following his growth in the aviation sector, he currently runs a globally recognised aviation training and consulting firm. He is a member of the Institute of Management Consultants and a Fellow of the Institute (FIMC).
In 1999, Satumari personally began to mobilise people in his community to participate in Nigeria’s new democracy. In 2003, he was part of the concerned group that mobilized professionals to take keen interest in politics in Lagos State. In 2006, he came together with other concerned citizens to form the Southern Borno Youth Patriotic Front. The group tasked itself with identifying credible leaders who could bring development to the communities if elected.
In recognition of his passion and contribution to the progress of his community, in 2007, he was proposed as the candidate to represent his people in the Borno State House of Assembly but he humbly declined. In 2010 he was pressed by his people to run for the Borno State House of Assembly which he accepted. Though unsuccessful in that election, this unusual leader went ahead to fulfill the promises he made during his manifesto.
‘Haske,’ as he is fondly called, because of his enduring passion for a better life for his people and the communities in which they live, built the classrooms he promised. Attendance and enrollment increased, education became more attractive to children and parents because of the environment that was now conducive. He also supported the building of more classrooms at Garambal and other places. He sponsored economic empowerment initiatives for both women and youths.
He supported farmers with funds to procure fertilizers, herbicides, improved seeds and hire tractors. He built and refurbished boreholes for the communities accross southern Borno and beyond. In response to the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Haske provided aid and relief materials, being the first to respond often times even ahead of government efforts in the affected constituencies especially in the early days of the insurgents attack on the helpless communities.
He also currently provides a number of scholarships for bright students, and funding for healthcare for those that are less able to pay. His action of keeping his promise despite not winning the election made his constituents to brand him “The Promise Keeper.”
To help the plight of the less-privileged and Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) whose lives have become pitiable due to the activities of insurgents in the North East region, he established the Haske Foundation in 2015.
